A man who was captured on video threatening to steal a branch of a big American bank was arrested Thursday, and authorities said they would not release the name of the victim.
Authorities said they were still trying to determine how the suspect became so radicalized, and they are not releasing the name until they can determine whether he is a law enforcement officer or a citizen of Israel.
Police said the suspect, identified only by his initials as A.M., approached the branch in the central city of Beersheba on Wednesday morning, asking for cash and other goods.
A group of men inside the branch noticed A.R.M. and immediately approached him, and the suspect grabbed A. R.M.’s cash and ran away.
Police then caught up with A. M. and caught him on camera.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the police station, where he was released on bail.
He is not a citizen, police said.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said it is not clear whether the suspect was targeted because he is Jewish or because of his religious beliefs.
