Green Dot bank announced plans Monday to open more than 20 branches in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
In addition to the two new branches in Manhattan and New York City, the bank is also adding branches in Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Switzerland and the U of T in Canada.
A representative of the Green Dot said the new branches will expand the bank’s reach across the U, Canada and the European Union.
“The expansion is a natural progression for us as we move into a new era and as we are expanding our reach to the U., U.K. and Ireland,” the representative said.
“We are building on our long-standing and long-term relationship with the community in New Yorkers and New Yorkers in Canada, so this is a great opportunity for all of us to make our mark on this community,” he said.
The new branches, which will open in early 2019, will serve as branches for a wider range of financial institutions, including: American Express, Bank of America, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Capital One, First United Bank, TD Ameritrade and U.C.
The bank said the expansion will be accompanied by additional services, including a new website, a new customer service centre, and an in-house team of 20 people, all of whom will be bilingual.
“Today, we are opening more branches than ever before, and this expansion will continue for years to come,” said Green Dot CEO Yael Goldwasser.
“As the global financial system continues to grow, so too does the need for a more efficient, accessible and transparent banking system that supports the most vulnerable and marginalized,” she added.
“With our expansion, we’re putting the world’s most valuable assets into the hands of the most indebted and underserved in the world.”
In addition, Green Dot is expanding its service offerings in New Jersey and New Mexico.
